Senior Designer/Drafter
Position Summary
The Senior Millwork Drafter is responsible for producing accurate and detailed shop drawings that are fabrication ready by coordinating with project managers, architects, engineers, and production teams. This role requires site visits to verify conditions, as well as strong communication with construction project managers to resolve issues in the field. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, technically skilled, and able to navigate project management systems to keep work organized and on track.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare comprehensive shop drawings for custom millwork projects based on architectural drawings, design specifications, and field conditions.
Conduct site visits to verify dimensions, gather field information, and coordinate with site supervisors.
Communicate directly with construction project managers to clarify design intent, resolve field conditions, and ensure seamless coordination between shop and site.
Serve as a primary communication link between the drafting department, project management, and production teams.
Attend and contribute to project coordination meetings, providing technical input and resolving design-related issues.
Review architectural and engineering drawings for accuracy, constructability, and alignment with millwork fabrication processes.
Incorporate feedback and revisions from clients, architects, and production staff into updated drawing sets.
Optimize drafting for efficient manufacturing, including layouts for beam saws and CNC machinery.
Upload, track, and manage drawing sets, RFIs, and submittals using Procore and Autodesk Construction Cloud
Maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in all work produced.
Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior drafters as needed.
Ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and internal quality control processes.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of professional experience in architectural millwork drafting.
Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, with working knowledge of Rhino and/or Revit.
Experience with Microvellum preferred.
Strong understanding of woodworking techniques, materials, joinery methods, and construction standards.
Practical knowledge of beam saw and CNC machining workflows in millwork fabrication.
Ability to conduct site visits and effectively interpret field conditions.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate technical details effectively to construction project managers, architects, and shop teams
Experience working within project management platforms such as Procore and Autodesk Construction Cloud.
Highly detail-oriented, with proven ability to deliver accurate drawings under tight deadlines.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across teams and maintain positive client and stakeholder relationships.
